March Beginners Course 2025
An eight week course to build a solid foundation for your pottery journey.
Service Description
Start the new year, with a new skill! During our beginners ceramics course you will learn all the basics you need to build a solid foundation for your pottery journey. We will be covering a variety of hand building techniques, throwing on the potters wheel, decoration and glazing. This immersive 8 week course allows students to feel confident creating sculptural and functional pieces, as well as time to create your own mini project! All students are emailed notes after every class which they can save onto their devices for future use. All materials, firings and glazing included in the cost, so at the end of the course you will be able to take your handmade pieces home. Week 1 - You will start your journey into clay, by creating a mug using the slab building method. Week 2 - The pinch pot method, this primitive technique is one of the oldest methods used in ceramics. You will be introduced to this technique by making vases. Week 3 - Coil building, we love this form of making here at Naku and we don't just start with your generic form. This class is dedicated to experimental coil building and press moulds. Week 4 and 5 - Scraffito, using your wonderful experimental coiled bowls as well as coil building your very own jug using the standardised way of coil building. Week 6 and 7 - This time is used to design and make your very own project with guidance from our head potter. Students will be offered to have their wheel throwing lesson during these times also. Of course you can use your 2 hour studio slot to catch up on your personal projects, on Friday or Saturday day time at Naku Studio. Week 8 - Lastly, you will learn the basics of glazing!
